Distance Learning
The project is an expansion to MOE's initiative, "Meeting of Minds" that was to simultaneously connect teachers & instructors across Egypt's governorates to include new location and adding the facility of Interactivity

Alkan role in this project was System Integrator for Network, Hardware, Video Conferencing, and Application.

The Educational System in Egypt is a huge foundation constituting:

* Over 17 Million Student.
* Over 2 Million Teachers.
* Over 35,000 School.
* Over 300 Educational Directories.

Interactive Distance Learning is part of Egypt biggest National project for Education Development. The IDL project (originally named "Distance Learning" or "Remote Education") was one step in the overall development of Education utilizing new
technology. Since 1997 the project started as an Educational Video conferencing Network connecting the Ministry of Education and its branches and directories (38 locations). The main purpose of the project was to remotely train teachers and
administrators with ICT and Education materials through face-to-face Video conferencing. The instructor in the MOE site can address as many as 38 concurrent classrooms utilizing state-of-art Video conference and Data collaboration tools. Teachers in Aswan (Upper Egypt) are taught the same content and materials as Teachers in Cairo (Capital of Egypt) at the same time from the same instructor. Which accomplish the objectives of "Consistency" and "Time Saving”.

The communication infrastructure for the project is based on terrestrial E1 lines connecting each remote site to the MOE site in-addition to VSAT links for distant locations.

The project was further upgraded in 2002 to include Interactivity and introducing new utilizes to further enhance the educational process. The original network expanded to include additional 20 sites (total of 58 sites). One Touch systems were to provide the IDL solution utilizing The One Touch Classroom configuration for 23 locations of the 58 that can accommodate up to 1,150 concurrent participants. This upgrade allows each participant to interact directly with the Instructor in the MOE IDL studio.

In addition to the enhancement One Touch products introduced to the training process, it also helps achieving new objectives of "allowing participants to assists and rate the course / Instructor" and "allowing the instructor log all participants' interactions / answers”.
