Alkan Telecom announces the first WiMax deployment in Sharm El-Sheikh as part of the WIESC (While In Egypt Stay Connected) program of the USAID.
Acknowledging the importance of Tourism in Egypt , the USAID decided to make an effective step towards elevating the position of the city of Sharm El-Sheikh on the world's touristic map, thus came the initiative with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) of establishing a strong and stable wireless connectivity in Naama Bay .
EgyNet, the licensed tier one ISP, was licensed to provide such wireless internet services to this commercial pilot awarded through the WIESC (While In Egypt Stay Connected) programs of the USAID. Alkan Telecom -the leading telecom system integrator- along with Redline Communications Inc. -the leading WiMax technology provider- were the first choice for the implementation of this huge initiative.
Ahmed Abdel-Aal, Managing Director of Alkan Telecom, said that the new service makes Internet available to the 4 Million tourists visiting Naama Bay every year benefiting both businesses and residents. “The need for reliable Internet access is not a luxury anymore, it becomes a necessity and adds to the value of Naama Bay not only as a great holiday destination but as a destination for business conferences and events as well. In its initial phase, the network will be capable of supporting more than 600 nomadic users serving businesses, residents, and tourists visiting the area. The network will be expanded to cover more areas of the Sinai Peninsula in 2008” added Abdel-Aal.

Alkan Telecom successfully deploys City–Wide Wireless Traffic Surveillance Network in Cairo
Traffic Police to view and record video surveillance cameras from across the city
Alkan Telecom, a major solution and services provider and a recognized regional systems integrator, has recently implemented a major wireless surveillance Solution for use of the Traffic Police within the city of Cairo . Connecting Cameras from Telindus Surveillance Solutions (TSS) over Wimax wireless broadband network from Redline, Alkan Telecom was able to provide remote video from across the city of Cairo to centralized control rooms for viewing, recording, and connecting police across major metropolitan areas.
Alkan Telecom has also successfully integrated the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) maps and technology component, supplied by its sister company ESRI North East Africa, providing top quality and performance into the system. The company,began rolling out wireless equipment in urban centers throughout Cairo , enabling police and security agencies to transmit time and security-sensitive surveillance video, GIS, and vehicle tracking broadband to command and control centers.
